Eat Up the 6

Food Tours on Foot - All Around Toronto

Hem: Välkommen

What?

Food Tours in Toronto's most exciting neighbourhoods.

Try ethnic eateries in Little India, Chinatown or the Tokyo Strip, embrace the young anarcho-vibes and trendy fusion food of Kensington market, eat the diner burger that Elton John is rumoured to love, check out the hall-in-the-wall jazz club for elderly or take a break in the time-worn vegetarian oasis where portions are big and cheap and no phones are allowed.

Tickets for all tours sell for only 25 CAD.

We at Eat Up the 6 also want to be a small part of the solution for the food insecurity that too many people are facing today.

20 percent of all revenue (5 CAD per ticket) will be donated to Toronto's Daily Bread Food Bank.

Tours

Want to learn what to eat in the world's most diverse city?

Downtown

It's easy to get overwhelmed in the busy downtown core. Fret not! Starting around Eaton Centre and Dundas Square, we'll show you where Elton John likes to get his burger when he is in town, where you can get heaps of cheap Sri Lankan curries or the best pizzas in Hogtown.

See the food hall with live DJs where the finance elite go to lunch or learn about the abundance of wonderful vegan places downtown has to offer.

Follow us as we dive in amidst the skyscrapers to discover this area's pearls, old and new.

2-3 hours. 25 CAD per person. Minimum 5 people. Available daily. Contact us for booking!

Little India and Leslieville

Gerrard India Bazaar, as it's also called, is one of the coziest and most interesting parts of the city.

You'll find Indian veggie cuisine to die for, all kinds of buffets; from the casual to the white linen variety, Pakistani food served tapas style in an ambiance reminiscent of Lahore and wonderful but dirt cheap Afghani kebabs served in a place that is exploding in pastel colours.

We'll take this tour down the backstreets to the Queens Street East Neighbourhood Leslieville. A hipster Mecca. Besides a lot of interesting restaurants, there's' a variety of great dessert options.

From one of the biggest, and most indulgent, soft-serve buzzes in the 6, to the best Middle Eastern rose dessert, perhaps anywhere!

2-3 hours. 25 CAD per person. Minimum 5 people. Available daily. Contact us for booking!

The Beaches

Only half an hour from the city centre, this tour will have you experience the calm and breeze that this long sand stretch offers. The Beaches or The Beach. Singular or plural, those are fittingly also the two names of the neighbourhood, but too many visitors never get to see this chill side of the 6.

We'll combine the Beach with getting to know the small town charm of the adjacent Queen Street East neighbourhood.

Starting with one of the best coffees of Toronto, this walk is half "nature walk", where we'll take in the scenery and show you the secret picnic spots along the lake if you want to avoid the crowds.

Some of the stops in the second half include a well known vegan bakery, a top-notch restaurant with new wave Indian cuisine, a commie jazz club owned by a fanatic Cuba lover and a beloved Chinese diner.

2-3 hours. 25 CAD per person. Minimum 5 people. Available daily. Contact us for booking!

Bloor Street West

Starting up on Dupont Street, just below Casa Loma, we'll get to see some of the trendiest restaurants in town, a classic Jewish deli and a very Instagram-friendly retro diner.

The Annex and Koreatown have since long been home, and hang-out, for intellectuals, big thinkers, students and artists alike (we don't know how they can afford it though, the rents are SKY high). But it shows. We'll discover a whimsical Buddhist eatery with interior from the eighties, a slew of fabulous Korean BBQs, a rustic Hungarian restaurant with gargantuan schnitzel plates, a popular documentary movie theatre and a lot of unpretentious pubs.

This is also the neighbourhood where you'll find two of the most exciting supermarkets in Toronto.

2-3 hours. 25 CAD per person. Minimum 5 people. Available daily. Contact us for booking!

Chinatown, the Tokyo strip and Kensington Market

The density of places to eat in this area is simply mindblowing. We'll help you sort out what's what.

Do you want vegetarian Chinese, Muslim Uygur Chinese, crispy pig feet or an upscale Chinese dining experience? Have you been wondering where to find high-quality Japanese ice cream or North Ontarian Indigenous food, or that perfect laid-back jazz club for 60-plussers, where you can play pool and dance the afternoon hours away?

You're in luck! All this and more can be found in these vibrant, eclectic neighbourhoods.

We'll love to be your guide through it all.

2-3 hours. 25 CAD per person. Minimum 5 people. Available daily. Contact us for booking!

About the tasting

We don't include any tastings on our tours. Why? Well, first of all, because people have different diet requirements. Most of us in any case. We are kosher, halal, vegans, diabetics, gluten-intolerant or we have anaphylactic allergies against one or more food items. At Eat Up the 6 we don't want to assume anything about what you can or want to eat.

And should you be a student, newcomer or just a curious Torontonian with a tight budget, you can learn about a new part of town with no pressure to buy any food.

We at Eat Up The 6 will point out the good splurges and the cheap gems. For those who want to, there're plenty of snackable items to buy on each tour and nosh on as we go.

With that said, if you are a group who want a prearranged tour with taste samples, we can arrange that in most of the tours, costing an approximate 30 CAD extra.
